The Under-Appreciation of God’s Love

Malachi 1:1-5

  1. How does a proper view of God’s love for you play out in the rest of your life?  What issues that you or others struggle with do you think have a direct connection to a lack of appreciating and appropriating His love for you?
  2. Consider the following texts about God’s love for his people.  Jot down what you glean from them regarding this theme.
    1. Romans 8:37-39
    2. Ephesians 2:4-5
    3. Ephesians 3:14-19
    4. 1 John 3:1
  3. Read Ezekiel 35 and the short book of Obadiah. Why did God judge Edom?
  4. How can understanding and appreciating God’s wrath help you be more appreciative of His love?
  5. Read the blog entry on regarding unconditional election.  Pay close attention to the Scripture that is used.  Summarize your understanding of this doctrine.  How does it relate to this text?
  6. What in your life has to change to appreciate God’s love to a greater degree?
  7. Pray for one another to grow in your acceptance and appreciation of the how much God loves you.

  • What does purgos mean?

    "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?" (Luke 14:28)

    The context surrounding this verse is a strong call to follow Him as a disciple. He places this metaphor in his challenge and I think it speaks vividly of what we all as believers should desire, namely that our lives would be built into a long-lasting, enduring tower that will radiate His glory for all to see. Purgos is the term for “tower” in this text. Read more »
